BENEFITS

A disability of any sort can feel like a closed door.  Many people with disabilities find themselves isolated not only from their communities, but from the wider world around them. CRIS Adaptive Adventures aims to open that door for children, adults, and seniors who struggle with a disability. We have seen remarkable changes in the lives of our participants and in our community as we all work together to achieve a higher quality of life. Isolation leads to depression, and CRIS programs combat not only the depression but also its cause. It is very hard to feel depressed in good company on a mountain peak. Pride in accomplishment leads our participants to ever greater heights, literally.

“…It brings tears to my eyes when I think of the wonderful difference CRIS (the organization, the people, and their sponsors) has made in my life.  MS is a disease that narrows one’s life inexorably with no mercy.  CRIS has provided me with joy and laughter that I had thought had left my life forever…
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Emotional and physical health are so intertwined that our programs cannot help but improve both. We do amazing things, helping people with disabilities to expand their ideas about what is possible. Self-esteem improves, anxiety lifts, and participants make enduring connections within their community. We provide more than hiking, cycling, and paddling. We provide fun, companionship, and laughter. Not only does this broaden the lives of our participants, but also those of our volunteers.

“Three days ago I didn’t really know anyone of you… today I see you all as friends.”

We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and our programs open that world up to everyone, regardless of ability or health. Nature itself is a powerful healer, and our skilled volunteers allow everyone to experience its benefits. Our volunteers’ specialized knowledge and safety expertise support every adventure, and our adaptive equipment makes each adventure accessible to everyone. We paddle, bike, and hike together, building the foundations of healthier and happier lives.

“CRIS programs gave me back my independence and reawakened my sense of adventure."  (Jeff)

CRIS Adaptive Adventures brings together people of all ages and abilities, and helps to break down the barriers between us. Community integration benefits us all, participants and volunteers both. We come together with common goals; health, happiness, and independence, and find that we can help each other achieve them. Volunteers and participants help each other reach beyond their perceived limits and take the social and physical risks that growth requires.

“This isn’t just about people with diabilities. Inclusion is about everyone.”

Our programs are more than just good healthy exercise. CRIS Adaptive Adventures empower and uplift, refresh and renew. We help people from all walks of life and of all levels of ability come together and open the way to a broader perspective and more satisfying life.

“I started doing this because I wanted to change other people’s lives, but I had no idea how much it would change mine.”
